A blog about my journey overcoming scoliosis surgery. I hope this provides not only a memory of my experience for myself but also a bucket of knowledge for others deciding to pursue a similar journey.

Baby Beluga Whale
Update on my current health. I am back at the gym... and yes lifting weights. Now of course they are light weights and I am taking it easy and reading all the signs my body is giving me. However, overall I feel the strength returning to my body. I really believe that in 6 months I will be back to where I was pre surgery. A few of my gym friends have nicknamed me "little robot" which is oddly giving me even more support to keep on trying to get my body back healthy.
Now there is one BIG thing which is currently plaguing me... SWELLING. I could be mistaken for being 5 months pregnant. My belly, lower back, thighs, and hips are all immensely swollen. It hurts to sit for too long, walking has turned into a waddle, and I am awfully embarrassed at how huge I look. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow in order to determine if it is serious or not. However, I am a bit of a research nut and what I have determined so far is that it may be soft tissue swelling. When your body experiences a trauma it goes into protect mode.... hence the swelling. Now from what I have read so far it is not dangerous and is just your bodies way of healing itself. For example, when you sprain your wrist the first thing that happens is that it swells to project the damaged area. Though, this doesn't take away from the fact that I finally have a straighter looking body and now I look like a beluga whale. - oh the woe's of being a scoliosis warrior. All I can hope is that one day this summer I may feel confident enough to rock a slight belly shirt (maybe just around my living room) in order to show off my awesome new tummy (probably just to my cat) :)
